The challenges of healthcare are complex societal and financial issues that are yet to be fully understood and resolved in the United States. For example, while the healthcare sector employs 11 percent of American workers and accounts for 24 percent of government spending, it does not result in a healthier population (compared to other developed societies).1 Further, while responsible for the healing of human minds and bodies, the healthcare itself is impeded by complexity and fragmentation of the health care system, unfettered utilization of services, and hidden waste.
