Clinical Lab 2.0 Lab Driven Care Model for Anemia

Filed in:

Anemia is a disease with high prevalence, high cost of care, and low quality of life.  Through the engagement of clinical laboratories and diagnostic workflows, health systems can help improve the testing strategies, diagnosis, and patient outcomes for anemia. Clinical Lab 2.0, as shown in the model below3, highlights how the use of longitudinal laboratory data can be used to create actionable insights.  This Lab-Initiated Care Model for Anemia outlines how clinical laboratories, through anemia cascades can help with the identification of care gaps and high-risk anemia patients. Thus, by creating a cascade, we can target multiple demographics and people with comorbidities. While some organizations may choose to focus on targeted populations such as high risk cardiovascular, surgery, or preoperative patients; a cascade can easily be customized depending on the need of each respective organization.
